Waterfalls in Bulgaria
The Skakavitsa Waterfall (Skakavishki vodopad) is the highest waterfall in the Rila Mountains in Bulgaria. It is part of Rila National Park and is located on the Skakavitsa River. The waterfall is situated on approximately 2,000 m above sea level, the water falling down from 70 m.
The Skakavitsa Waterfall is one of the chief tourist attractions in the area owing also to the century-old endemic white fir (Pinum peuce) forests surrounding it.
The waterfall is near "Skakavitsa" hut, approximately 15 min by walking. To reach the hut you have to take the path which starts from the first lift station in the main resort - Panichishte, Rila Mountains. The path has a lot of signs which direct to the hut it will take about 30-40 min to reach it. Then you follow the path near the river which goes directly to the waterfall.
All the trip to the waterfall and back will take about 3-4h easy walk.
